Sony's New 'Jumanji: Open World' Poster Promises 'One Final Game' in UK Cinemas December 23
Sony Pictures UK has posted new key art for Jumanji: Open World, billing Jake Kasdan’s Christmas release as “the last game” and setting UK cinemas for December 23. US theatres open Christmas Day.
Sony Pictures UK has new key art for Jumanji: Open World. The studio’s UK account posted the one-sheet on October 19, captioned “Two worlds collide. One final game.” The post adds that “the last game is coming only to cinemas December 23” — a UK date, two days ahead of the American release. The attachment is a single portrait image at 1080 by 1350 pixels, the vertical shape studios favour for phone feeds. There is no video attached and no new footage.
As marketing beats go, this one is a poster drop rather than a content reveal. It carries no new plot detail, no cast additions and no trailer. What it contributes is a date and a framing: the UK account is now counting down in the language of finality, and pinning that to a specific December day for British audiences.
The calendar around the poster
December 23 is the UK cinema date, and Sony’s own territory pages match it: the German site advertises the film “ab 23.12.2026 nur im Kino,” and Swiss listings carry December 23 for French- and German-speaking regions. US theatres open two days later, on December 25. Sony Pictures Canada’s page says “exclusively in movie theatres December 25,” and Box Office Mojo and The Numbers both list Christmas Day as the domestic wide date, with The Numbers also noting an IMAX release. The Numbers further lists December 10 openings in several international markets, including Brazil, Mexico and the Czech Republic.
The Christmas date is itself a move, not a first plan. As Variety reported when the first trailer arrived in July, Sony shifted the wide release from December 11 to December 25, placing the film a week after Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday — a crowded stretch fans had already nicknamed “Dunesday.”
“The last game” is official studio language
“One final game” is not just social copy for the feed. Sony’s official synopsis for the film, carried on its UK, Canadian and German pages, describes Jumanji: Open World as “the hilarious final instalment of the globally beloved action-adventure trilogy.” Variety’s trailer coverage billed it the third and final movie in the reboot series, and at CinemaCon earlier this year Dwayne Johnson confirmed the film would close out the franchise, as The Hindu and others reported. The studio is selling a farewell, and the new poster simply keeps that line in front of UK audiences as the date nears.
The film behind the poster
Jake Kasdan directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, based on Chris Van Allsburg’s book. The premise inverts the reboot series’ setup: instead of the players going into the game, the game comes out. “This time Jumanji breaks free of its console, unleashing its chaos into our world,” per Sony’s synopsis. The July trailer showed the avatar characters loose in the real world and stuck, in one character’s words, “in demo mode” — as this site covered at the time.
Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan reprise the roles they began in 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and carried through 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. They are joined by Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, Morgan Turner, Rhys Darby, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina and Danny DeVito, with Burn Gorman and Nasim Pedrad new to the ensemble. Those first two reboot films took in more than $1.7 billion worldwide, per Variety — which makes the decision to end the run, and to sell it openly as an ending, a deliberate one.
The October 19 post is the first calendar-specific push of the final stretch for the UK market, about nine weeks out from opening. Whether “the last game” holds as franchise truth remains to be seen — studios have been known to revive finales — but Sony’s messaging has been consistent since CinemaCon: this closes the trilogy, and the countdown is now on the calendar.
