Shrek 2 Remastered Leaks on the Xbox Store With 4K Visuals and Four-Player Co-Op

A store page for the unannounced Shrek 2 Remastered has appeared online, listing Aspyr as developer and publisher alongside 4K visuals, Photo Mode, Cheat Mode and up to four-player co-op.

A store page for Shrek 2 Remastered went live on the Microsoft Store on October 16, 2026, well before any official announcement. The listing was spotted on X by @_h0x0d_ and amplified by @Wario64, and it names Aspyr Media as both the developer and the publisher while describing a rebuilt version of the 2004 movie tie-in. The page is live but not yet purchasable, the familiar shape of a store listing that goes up ahead of a proper reveal.

That reveal looks set for the ID@Xbox Showcase on October 20, 2026, which Microsoft is producing in partnership with IGN. Shrek appears for a split second in the event’s teaser, and the broadcast is billed as featuring more than 20 games and world premieres. Neither Microsoft nor Aspyr has officially confirmed the remaster.

According to the store page, Shrek 2 Remastered is a third-person action-adventure inspired by the DreamWorks Animation film, taking players “through the fairytale kingdom of Far Far Away from Shrek’s swamp to Fiona’s castle and everywhere in between.” It can be played solo or with up to three friends, with players smashing, throwing and kicking their way against iconic characters from the franchise.

The feature list leans on nostalgia and a modern coat of paint. The graphics have been “rebuilt with better textures, enhanced UI, 4K resolution and cutscenes,” and two entirely new features are added: a Photo Mode for capturing in-game moments and a Cheat Mode for unlocking cheats during a playthrough. Cooperative play supports up to four players across couch, online and mixed sessions, and players can swap heroes at any time to use different abilities against enemies, bosses and environmental puzzles. The page also promises “hidden Easter Eggs.”

The store metadata fills in the rest. Xbox Series X|S is the only listed platform, the rating is ESRB Everyone 10+ for Fantasy Violence and Comic Mischief, and the genres are Family & kids, Action & adventure, Platformer, and Puzzle & trivia. The feature set mentions local and online multiplayer for two to four players, cross-platform multiplayer and co-op, single player and Xbox achievements. No release date, price or download size appears on the page.

A leak that has been building since September

The remaster has been an open secret for weeks. On September 9, 2026, a Valve API error briefly exposed achievement lists for games that should still have been private, and an unnamed app — Steam App ID 2523740 — surfaced with 45 achievements that closely mirrored the structure of the original Shrek 2 game. Reported achievement names referenced Shrek’s Swamp, the Spooky Forest, Jack and Jill’s Farm, Far Far Away and the Fairy Godmother’s potion factory, plus events such as a “Black Bird Pie” challenge and the original’s Hero Time bonus sections. SteamDB records show the hidden entry was created in the summer of 2023, with localized achievement data uploaded only in September. No public Steam page exists today, so the Xbox listing is the first official-looking product page for the project.

It is a full-circle moment for Aspyr. In May 2004 the studio announced a Mac version of Shrek 2, a port handled by Ryan Gordon, for release that July at $29.99, so the company behind this remaster has shipped a Shrek 2 game before.

The film’s original tie-in arrived on April 28, 2004, published by Activision for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube at $49.99, with Game Boy Advance and PC versions at $29.99. The console editions were developed by Luxoflux, the Game Boy Advance version by Vicarious Visions and the PC version by KnowWonder. It earned an “E” rating and became a fondly remembered co-op brawler, which is why a remaster generated this much attention for a licensed movie game.

Plenty remains unconfirmed. There is no release date, price or file size, and the listing shows no way to buy or pre-order the game yet. Whether Shrek 2 Remastered also comes to PC or other consoles is unclear: the Microsoft Store page lists Xbox Series X|S only, while the September leak hinted at a possible Steam release through its achievement data. Activision, the original publisher, has said nothing publicly, and it is not known how closely Aspyr is working with DreamWorks or the original rights holders.

For now the safest read is that this is an accidental store-page reveal of an upcoming announcement rather than a finished product reveal. The Xbox Store page is likely to be the anchor when the game is formally unveiled, and the ID@Xbox Showcase on October 20 — 10 a.m. PT, 1 p.m. ET — is where fans expect the details to finally land.
