Warner Bros. Moves 'Gremlins 3' to October 2028, Nearly a Year After Its 2027 Date
Warner Bros. has moved Gremlins 3 from November 19, 2027 to October 6, 2028. Chris Columbus directs and produces, with Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer.
Warner Bros. has moved the release date of Gremlins 3 from November 19, 2027 to October 6, 2028, pushing the third film in the franchise back by roughly eleven months. The studio announced the change on September 23, alongside an 11-second teaser clip showing Gizmo, captioned "10.6.28. Only In Theaters." Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported the re-dating the same day.
Chris Columbus, who wrote the 1984 original Gremlins, is set to direct and produce the film. Steven Spielberg is returning to the franchise as executive producer. Columbus is directing and writing the screenplay with Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the pair behind Final Destination Bloodlines. Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario of Amblin Entertainment are producing alongside Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe through 26th Street Pictures.
The project was first disclosed by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav during an investor call in 2025, with a November 19, 2027 date reported in November of that year. It is the first new live-action entry in the series in close to four decades, following Joe Dante's 1984 original and 1990 sequel. Warner Bros. moved the date as part of a broader reshuffle of its fall 2028 slate, which also shifted DC's animated Dynamic Duo to September 22, 2028.
The studio gave no reason for the delay and has not indicated whether October 6, 2028 is final. No official title beyond Gremlins 3 has been announced, and plot details and casting have not been disclosed. Reports have differed slightly on the release date and on writing credits: the Los Angeles Times reported an October 8, 2028 date, and one outlet reported Hannah Marks as the screenwriter.
